An Inspiring Story of Businesses Investing in Education
The ek robotics Sports Campus is a brilliant example of how schools can, and arguably should, seek to proactively encourage businesses to invest in education. The Royal Latin has been working with local companies for many years, and particularly so during its 600 Campaign. The campaign strapline – Building the Future, Together – challenges businesses to play their part in ensuring that the education system is fit for purpose, and is capable of nurturing the skills that employers are looking for in young people.
Providing sponsorship and funding is only part of the story; the school works with each company to carefully listen to its own objectives and challenges, and then creates a partnership which provides opportunities to build mutually beneficial relationships. For companies, very often this means coming into school to give talks to students or help with projects; for students, it means powerful opportunities to hear about career opportunities and help solve real world business problems.
Racelogic, the award winning positioning, data logging and video company, has been a major sponsor of the school since 2012, sponsoring both an Innovation Lab in the Discovery Centre and a Sports Lab in the Sports Campus. Vitalograph, another Buckingham company, has also supported the Discovery Centre and Sports Campus by providing sponsorship, expertise and equipment – and played a vital role in inspiring students and other businesses to fundraise by match funding their efforts. The lead sponsor of the Sports Campus, ek robotics, is the latest company to lend its support to the school, by offering a multi-year sponsorship package and a range of opportunities to bring the world of robotics to life for students – starting with a popular extra-curricular robotics club. The directors of ek robotics – a family owned company based in Germany – recently visited the school to see first hand the impact their sponsorship is already making.
“Bringing together business and education is something we’re all passionate about. It’s one of those commitments that all parties know to be a good idea, but which schools and businesses can often feel is a complicated thing to actually achieve. We try to make it a straightforward and thoroughly rewarding experience for everyone involved – and it works. Seeing students enthused and excited to learn from businesses, and seeing how much the businesses enjoy sharing their worlds with young people is powerful stuff – everyone walks away from those interactions absolutely buzzing, with the sense that these experiences are essential in helping to nurture the employees of the future.”
